Clothing Construction I Projects
The following projects have been made while I took a Clothing Construction course. All projects focused on using woven fabrics, as well as, patterned fabrics. Each garment includes pictures and short descriptions. Not only did the course highlight the importance of using appropriate materials, but also the importance of using the right type of stitching and settings for specific clothing. All garments were made using a basic Singer sewing machine. Sewing patterns were also provided for the construction of the following garments.
Tote Bag with Inner Pockets
This tote bag is made of brown cotton twill fabric for the exterior and 100% quilter's cotton fabric with an orange print for the interior. Fusible featherweight PELLON is used as interfacing for the bag's straps. Inside the bag, there are two pockets parallel to each other on each side.
Adult Striped Collared Short-Sleeve Shirt
This shirt is made of 100% cotton fabric with a red stripe pattern and fusible featherweight PELLON for the collar. The shirt is a size large, has eight 1/2" buttons, and has a polo hem where the back hem is an inch longer than the front.. The polo hem sort of created a "tail" and creates a taller silhouette.
Kid's Collared Short-Sleeve Shirt
This kid's shirt is a size 4 and is made of 100% cotton fabric with a colorful bee print. The shirt also uses a solid turquoise cotton fabric for the bias, and pocket and sleeve trim. There is a small pocket and six 1/2" buttons on the front. Like the men's shirt, the kid's shirt has a polo hem.
Kid's Collared Short-Sleeve Dress
The kid's dress is a size 4 and is made of 100% cotton fabric with a blue and white flower print. The dress uses solid baby blue and white cotton fabric for the collar and trims. There are three 1/2" buttons in the front and a tie-back belt at the back of the dress. This dress emphasizes the use of ruffles in the sleeves and skirt.
Adult Bermuda Denim Shorts
This pair of shorts is made of a mediumweight dark wash denim fabric. The shorts are a size medium or men's 32" waist. The shorts have two extension inseam front pockets, a 7" fly-front zipper, button. and belt loops along the waistband. At the back center of the waistband, there are double belt loops.
